Scotts Valley baseball rallies for win over Santa Cruz | Local Roundup (2024)

Kit DeForest hit a solo home run in Scotts Valley High’s four-run sixth inning, and the Falcons rallied past visiting Santa Cruz 8-6 in the teams’ Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League game Tuesday.

The Falcons amassed 11 hits. Center fielder Jack Sanders had three hits, including two doubles, and three RBI. Jack Abel had two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Kaleb Wing and Jacob Pauka each scored twice. Quinn Turowski had two hits, two stolen bases, and scored a run.

Triton Dew drew two walks and scored twice for the Cardinals. Cameron Fusari had two hits and scored a run. Fernando Dacosta doubled and scored a run.

DeForest earned the win in relief ofBlake LaRiviere and Jack Parker earned his first save.

Scotts Valley (8-7, 4-5) plays at Santa Cruz (9-9, 6-4) on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Aptos 10, Soquel 7: Jack Reed had three hits, including two doubles, two RBI, and a run scored in the Mariners’ SCCAL win Tuesday.

The Mariners totaled 12 hits. Chase Dicey had two hits, two RBI, and a run scored. Matt Hood had two hits, one RBI, and scored three runs. Cole McGillicuddy had two hits and scored twice. Eddie Peters had a hit, one RBI, and scored three runs. Isaiah Work and Jorden Espinoza each had a hit and two RBI.

Espinoza gave up four hits and four runs, zero earned, over four innings. He struck out seven batters and walked six. Jasiah Mckenzie earned the save.

Soquel left 12 runners on base. Enzo Goff had two hits, one walk, two RBI, and a run scored. Brady Downs had a walk, hit, RBI, and scored twice. Jake Escalante also had two hits.

Aptos (10-6, 8-1-1) hosts Soquel (12-6, 6-4) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Boys tennis

SCCAL Championships:Aptos teammates Koosha Safari and Ben Zaretsky advanced to the singles final, and the Mariners’ John McGowan and Jack Eldredge advanced to the doubles final at the SCCAL Championships at Seascape Sports Club on Tuesday.

McGowan and Eldredge, the No. 2 seed, will face No. 1 seed Julian and Jeremy Arulanantham of Santa Cruz in the doubles final at Seascape on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

The singles final also begins at 3:30 p.m.

Safari, the No. 1 seed, beat Scotts Valley’s Elijah Diamond 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals, and Santa Cruz’s Sam Lambert 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals.

Zaretsky, the No. 2 seed, beat SLV’s Dylan Konigsberg 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals, and Santa Cruz’s Che Castro in the 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) in the semifinals.

The Arulananthams beat Scotts Valley’s Marshall Dodge and Henry Spitzer 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals. McGowan and Eldredge beat SLV’s Asher Schwarzbach and August Hughes 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals, and Soquel’s Benja Bellito and Adrian Hagedorn 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals.

College softball

At Cabrillo 3, West Valley 2; 8 inn.: Ada Neu singled home Dillyn Vasconcellos with the winning run in the Seahawks’ eighth inning, walk-off, Coast Conference win Tuesday.

Alicia Mendez had three hits and one RBI for the Seahawks. Neu finished with two hits and one RBI. Bella Fromel had two hits and a run scored. Kasydi Bennett had a hit and run scored, and Abreanna Alba had a hit and one RBI.

Mendez earned the complete-game win. Ashlie Nakano took the loss for the Vikings (29-8, 10-4).

Cabrillo (28-10, 9-5) next competes in the CCCAA NorCal playoffs.

Boys golf

At SLV 191, Harbor 230: The Cougars, SCCAL champion for the first time in school history, wrapped up their regular season with a winat Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.

SLV’s James Dahlen and Harbor’s Kaden Dunton each shot 3-over-par 34 to share medalist honors.

Keenan Buntz (35), Mason Atkinson (36), Jack Fontinell (40), and Connor Scarborough (46) also scored for the Cougars (9-1).

Matthew Salas (43), Kyler Samples (46), Kaito Levy (49), and Colby Allen (58) also scored for the Pirates.

The SCCAL Championships, an individual qualifier for the Central Coast Section Regionals, takes place at Black Horse Golf Course on Tuesday.

SLV has qualified for the regional as a team and competes at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch on May 7.

Santa Cruz 214, Scotts Valley 235: Medalist Tobin Ortiz-McClendon shot 37 on the front nine at DeLaveaga Golf Course to lead the Cardinals to the SCCAL win on Tuesday.

Cliff Chestnut (40), Braden Brooks (40), Bodie Weld (47), andRoman Minasian (50) also scored for the Cardinals (5-4).

Brady Siechen (40), Jack Hipwell (47), Cal Rockow (48), Adrian Creamer (49), and Colton Duerson (51) scored for the Falcons (3-7).

College baseball

At West Valley 9, Cabrillo 6: Jacob Pappas had three hits, including a home run, three RBI in the Seahawks’ Coast Conference South Division loss Tuesday.

Seita Shiratori had three hits, one RBI, and a run scored for the Seahawks.Anthony Karagiannopoulos had two hits and a run scored, and Nic Erickson hit a double and scored twice.

Lincoln Juarez pitched five innings and earned the win for the Vikings (30-9, 16-3). Josiah Granados pitched 2/3 on an inning and took the loss.

Cabrillo (18-20, 11-8) closes the regular season at Monterey Peninsula (19-20, 6-13) on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
