Anyone who knows me knows how much I love a good romantic comedy. And what’s not to love? Whether I’m watching a classic from the ‘90s or a more recent flick, I know there will be a lot of laughs, a swoon-worthy love story, and a soundtrack full of bangers to tie everything together. But what makes or breaks a good rom-com is the cast—especially the leading ladies.

As someone who’s basically made it her life’s mission to live as if she were a rom-com protagonist, so many of these women are like role models to me, even though they aren’t real people. They inspire me to step out of my comfort zone but also to stay true to myself while I achieve my goals. So, I did a deep dive into some of my favorite rom-coms and analyzed which of the zodiac signs these girls represent. Rachel Chu from Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy Rich Asians is arguably one of the best rom-coms to come out in the last few years, and Rachel shines as the lead. Like a strong and resilient Aries, she doesn’t let herself be brought down by anything her boyfriend Nick’s family throws at her. Instead, she fights back with grace and confidence, and she’s dressed to the nines while doing it. Aries signs are also reliable, and Rachel is a fiercely loyal friend and partner throughout the movie.

Taurus

Cher Horowitz from Clueless

Cher is the prime example of an “it girl”—who didn’t want to have her digital closet? In true Taurus fashion (pun absolutely intended), she lives a life of luxury with her fabulous mansion and mall runs with friends after school. Tauruses are also a stubborn sign, and once they commit to something, they give it their all. We see this side of Cher through her commitment to matchmaking, whether she’s trying to set up her friends or her teachers, and she keeps her own relationship standards high. Settling? As if!

Gemini

Elle Woods from Legally Blonde

With scenes like the bend and snap, “What, like it’s hard?” and Elle Woods strutting into a courtroom in a bright pink suit, Legally Blonde has no shortage of iconic moments. Just like a Gemini, Elle is chatty, outgoing, and sweet, but as she proves time and time again in this movie, she’s much more clever than she might first appear. Geminis are known for having a curious mind as well as a big social circle, and there’s no one better to represent both sides of this air sign than Elle.

Cancer

Lara Jean Song Covey from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Only someone with really strong emotions would write letters to every person they’ve ever had a crush on, and that’s what makes Lara Jean the perfect representation of a Cancer. She’s sensitive and sweet and is always looking out for her dad and sisters, as family relationships are also super important to Cancers. Despite being ruled by her emotions, Lara Jean still keeps up walls when it comes to her own love life—she protects her heart by making sure that not every “first” is fake when she finds herself in a pretend relationship with Peter Kavinsky. But as fans of this movie know, things might be more real than either of them expect.

Like the bright Leo, Andie is full of confidence and fun. Leos are also known for being the center of attention, and the lengths that Andie goes to while writing her titular “how to” article are proof that she loves to put on a show.

Jane Nichols from 27 Dresses

Virgos care a lot about the things and people around them, but sometimes they put the needs of others before their own as a result. Such is true for Jane, our perpetual bridesmaid. She’s organized and practical, helping dozens of her friends on the most important day of their lives. But she also has a hard time saying no—which makes planning her sister’s wedding to her boss and longtime crush an even bigger challenge. By learning to break this habit, Jane is finally able to shine on her own.

Jenna Rink from 13 Going On 30

Being 30 might not be everything it’s cracked up to be, especially when you flash forward 17 years overnight, but Jenna doesn’t let that stop her from living her best life. Like a true Libra, she looks for balance as she adjusts to her new surroundings. Whether she’s hosting slumber parties for the young girls in her apartment complex or dancing her heart out at work events, she makes friends everywhere she goes and stays in touch with her inner child (literally).

Kat Stratford from 10 Things I Hate About You

Scorpios are elusive and get a lot of flack, and the same is true for Kat. Her temper is a key quality of this water sign, but so is her passion for her hobbies and values. She likes having her freedom and trying new things, but also finds it hard to commit to something she’s not excited about, both of which are prominent Sagittarius traits. When she first comes to Australia, Bea finds herself in truly uncharted territory—not just by pretending to date Ben, but having just walked away from a stable relationship and career path. Like a Sagittarius, she doesn’t let the uncertainty get her down and rolls with the punches in all of the wacky situations she and Ben find themselves in.

Margaret Tate from The Proposal

If the term “girlboss” had been around when The Proposal was released, it certainly would’ve been used to describe Margaret. Like the thoughtful Capricorn, she’s dedicated to her work and is strategic about getting what she wants, even if it sometimes gets her into trouble. While faking an engagement is definitely not the best way to get out of any situation, it’s Margaret’s determination that makes her so endearing—especially when she lets down her walls and finds real love along the way.

Aquariuses are known for being unconventional, and there’s no better word to describe Princess Mia. Her quirkiness is also one of her greatest qualities as a princess since it gives her countless chances to make Genovia a more innovative country.
