June 6, 2024: New Moon in Gemini (2024)

There are five planets in Gemini as I type this. Five. That means that half of the planets (there are ten, in total) are in this unserious ass sign.

On Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 7:37 AM CST, there will be a new moon in the mutable, airy sign of Gemini. Not only will the Sun and Moon be in Gemini, but so will Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter. This means that this day (and honestly, this entire week) will be very chatty. I’d be willing to bet that you’ve probably been engaging in more conversations than usual, or you will be at some point over the course of this week! Gemini is the sign of the yapper — but what’s being said often needs to be taken at face value. As a Cancer rising with Gemini in the twelfth house, this is notoriously a very scattered and unfocused time for me. As a Cancer rising, I oftentimes struggle to “lighten up” — so when there’s a lot happening in Gemini, I’m reminded just how intense I can be (Moon-ruled things). I often do a lot of talking (to myself) during this season, (and in general, I never shut up) — as a way to process the abundance of intrusive thoughts running through my head.

Ruled by Mercury, Gemini is a sign of the mind, with a desire to continuously learn, discuss, and adapt. When planets are in Gemini, we’re often talking more, thinking fast, and questioning everything. It’s not a time to fixate on solving a singular problem, or to focus on having everything figured out (that’s Virgo energy). It’s an opportunity to receive information, chew on it (until you get bored), and then store it in your back pocket for later. The insight you’re gaining now may not be implemented right away, but it will be — especially now that Jupiter’s in Gemini. This new moon is a chance to re-focus on collecting tidbits of data, however insignificant it may seem, so that you simply have more to think about and eventually implement somewhere down the line.

The Gemini-ruled house in your birth chart is where you ask the most questions, but it’s also where you maintain the most light-hearted and good-humored approach to things. You may not have all of the answers, but like, it’s fine! Mercury, Gemini’s ruling planet, is incredibly crafty, and can find ways to “get” things even without all of the necessary information. This is why folks with Gemini placements are so resourceful — they’re able to work with the information that they have, even if they don’t have all of the facts. Now that Mercury’s in Gemini (and ruling this new moon), it’ll be also be a lot easier to look at things from many different perspectives.

Something important to note about this new moon is that it is tightly square Saturn in Pisces at 18 degrees. This is bringing a more serious component to an otherwise *very* unserious lunation to the forefront. Saturn in Pisces is deeply contemplative, melancholy, and introspective, whereas the stellium of planets in Gemini is content with keeping things light and airy. Saturn brings weight to whatever it touches, which allows us to solidify some of the ideas that may have come and gone without this added pressure. Think of your Pisces-ruled house as the area of life keeping your Gemini-ruled house grounded. Despite Pisces being a mutable, water sign, it has the necessary depth required to expand on a concept, belief, or idea that has the potential to get lost in translation.

During this new moon, I highly encourage you to put your mind or hands to work. Go untangle all of your necklaces! Bake a cake! Write down all of the skills you want to learn before the year ends! Read a book! Flirt with someone! Otherwise, you will probably be feeling bored, restless, or both. Usually, new moons are a time when energy can be low, since the Moon isn’t receiving any light from the Sun. However, with five planets in Gemini, your mind will be very active — so you’ll want to give it something to do.
